darkhorse (noun)
A little-known, unexpectedly successful entrant, as in a horserace.
The secret to my success in a very rewarding yet often overwhelming and stressful medical program is the fact that I periodically hide out in cafes around Toronto to take a sort of "mental wellness day".
Today I am studying in Darkhorse on Queen Street. It's cozy and warm and has an enormous wooden table that is perfect to spread out all my textbooks and computer on. It also has one of my favorite caffeine-free teas: Toasty Almond Tea. If you have not tried it yet and are looking for something slightly sweet tasting and perfect for the impending chilly weather, it's a winner.
However, if you are an avid cappuccino lover and are not watching your caffeine intake, I suggest you listen to Batman:
Remember to take time for yourselves and, above all, to be kind to yourselves.
Take with you today this quote from my favorite poem and read it every time you forget:
"Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should."
